Three governors from the Ukambani region supporting Azimio la Umoja Coalition have been asked to bolt out, and instead join the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
The three, Alfred Mutua of Machakos, Charity Ngilu (Kitui), and Kivuta Kibwana of Makueni were the first leaders in the region to support ODM leader Raila Odinga’s presidential bid.
But with the entry of Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, the influence of the trio seems to have been diluted. This is a matter Machakos Town Member of Parliament Victor Munyaka says was foreseen.

In a tweet, Munyaka, a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto, said it was obvious the former Vice President has overshadowed them, and that it was time to quit the coalition for UDA.
“I openly said that the Moment @skmusyoka Joins #Azimio, the 3 Kamba governors @governorkibwana, @DrAlfredMutua, and @mamangilu will face it tough. Evidently, The 3 are now to default settings on who the boss is. It's not late for the 3 to join @WilliamsRuto and us in @UDAKenya,” the MP tweeted.
Kalonzo is considered the Ukambani kingpin and recently insisted that it was not a subject of discussion as to who will be the running mate in the Azimio la Umoja coalition.
But even as Kalonzo and his allies push for the Raila running mate slot, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua was lamenting that parties within the Azimio la Umoja Coalition were not being treated equally.
The coalition has over 30 political parties, but Mutua says only three seem to be pulling the strings – ODM, Jubilee, and Wiper.
He warned that should other parties be taken for granted in the coalition that has the support of President Uhuru Kenyatta, they might be forced to reconsider their position.
“There is also an option of joining Kenya Kwanza, I saw a missed call from Deputy President William Ruto and his people have for the last few weeks been calling me including my friend Senator Cherargei. He called me last night because he is seeing an opportunity, he says come let us work together. There is also the option of renewing my own presidential bid,” Mutua said.
