Wetang'ula wants education of boy child prioritised
By Peter Ochieng
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula on Saturday emphasised on the importance of inclusive education, particularly focusing on the education of the boy child.
Addressing education stakeholders during a prayer day at Bungoma D.E.B Mixed Primary School in Kanduyi, Bungoma county, Speaker Wetang'ula expressed concern over what he termed as the neglect of the boy child in education.
"Even in my church, Christ the King Catholic Church, I noticed that out of the thirty flower children who participate, twenty-five are girls. It is essential that we ensure the boy child receives the attention he deserves."
"It is crucial that we ensure that the male students receive the dedicated attention that their educational development warrants," added the Speaker.
During the event, the Speaker responded to a plea for the expansion of the school's infrastructure.
The former Bungoma Senator helped to raise Sh10 Million to initiate the construction of an educational block for the institution.
The school which began with a paltry 150 learners in 1953, now has a population of 4,800.
Wetang'ula reaffirmed his commitment to the rejuvenation of the Nzoia Sugar Company.
"Substantial progress has been achieved in addressing the company's outstanding debts. I express my optimism regarding the economic renaissance that the industry is poised to experience once the supplementary budget allocation is secured," added the Speaker.
Concerning the highly expected El-Nino rains, he encouraged Kenyans to capitalize on the forthcoming short rains by embarking on the cultivation of short-season crops and advocating for government investments in water harvesting techniques.
Additionally, the Speaker implored the Leader of Majority in the National Assembly, Kimani Ichung’wa, to issue a comprehensive statement on the nations’ readiness for the upcoming rainy seasons.
He was accompanied by among others, John Makali (MP) Kanduyi and Majimbo Kalasinga (Kabuchai).
