Jose Mourinho sacked by AS Roma

By Peter Ochieng

Jose Mourinho is no longer the head coach of Italian Serie A side, AS Roma.

The widely travelled Portuguese tactician was sacked on Tuesday, on the backdrop of a poor run of form.

AS Roma has won just one of the last 6 Serie A games, with a 3-1 defeat to AC Milan over the weekend seemingly breaking the camel's back.

The defeat leaves Roma 9th on the Serie A table, outside the 2024/2025 EUFA Champions League qualification bracket.

A club statement states, "We would like to thank Jose on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club."

"We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club. We wish Jose and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours."

The ex FC Porto, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur manager joined Roma in 2021.

He guided them to the Europa Conference League title in 2022.

Addditionally, he guided them to the Europa League final last season, loosing to Spanish side Sevilla on penalties.

Traditionally, Mourinho has never been out of management for long.

He is expected to be back soon with several Clubs in Saudi Arabia and Europe vying for his 'precious' signature.

With two Champions League titles (FC Porto and Inter), and league titles in Portugal, England, Italy and Spain, the decorated but controversial Portuguese is one of the most sought after managers in Club football.
