UNITED NATIONS, Jan. 16 (Xinhua)

United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday condemned the killing of one Cameroonian peacekeeper from the UN peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic, his spokesman said.

Five peacekeepers were injured, two seriously, in a bombing attack in Mbindali, Ouham-Pende Prefecture. The secretary-general expressed his sincere condolences to the victim's family and the government of Cameroon. Stephane Dujarric, the spokesman, conveyed wishes for a swift recovery to the wounded in a statement.

"The secretary-general recalls that attacks targeting United Nations peacekeepers may constitute war crimes under international law. He calls on the Central African Republic authorities to spare no effort in identifying the perpetrators of this attack and bringing them to justice swiftly," said the statement.

Guterres reaffirmed the solidarity of the UN with the people and government of the Central African Republic, it said.
