President William Ruto has reiterated Kenya's solid and long-lasting partnership with the United States toward advancing peace and security across the Eastern Africa region.

Speaking after meeting with General Michael Langley, the commander of the United States Africa Command commonly known as AFRICOM, Ruto pointed out the mutual benefits of the collaboration in addressing regional and global security challenges.

Kenya and the United States enjoy an excellent peace and security partnership in the Eastern Africa region, which has been mutually beneficial for our two countries," he said during the meeting at State House, Nairobi.

This cooperation, he pointed out, has helped the two nations address some of the current critical security concerns on the ground, including terrorism and transborder crimes. Kenya has been a stronghold in anti-terrorism efforts, especially with regard to the extremist group Al-Shabaab based in Somalia but at times engages in attacks in Kenya.

Through intelligence sharing, joint military exercises, and capacity-building initiatives, the Government of Kenya and the US have developed a robust security framework to foster stability in the region.

AFRICOM, which oversees US military operations across Africa, has been a critical partner in these efforts by providing technical and operational support to Kenyan security forces.

The visit of General Langley to Kenya is part of a wider tour on the African continent, where he is holding talks with various leaders aimed at strengthening defense partnerships and security concerns.

During the meeting, discussion centered on deepening cooperation to counter evolving threats and ensure peace and stability in the Eastern Africa region.

Concretely, the cooperation between the two countries has yielded results in the fields of border security, counter-terrorist operations, and the security of the Indian Ocean.

Both parties declared their determination to consolidate these achievements. President Ruto also recognized the larger role of the US in realizing Kenya's development aspiration, saying that security is a key enabler of economic growth and social development.

"Our cooperation extends beyond security; it underpins the shared commitment of our two countries to a peaceful and prosperous region," he added.

While Eastern Africa continues to grapple with complicated security challenges, the strategic alliance between Kenya and the United States remains a cornerstone of regional stability.

General Langley's visit underscores the significance of this partnership in the shared determination to address emerging threats while fostering peace and development.
