By Peter Ochieng
Kirinyaga governor Ann Waiguru has landed her second term as the chairperson, Council of Governors (CoG).
She was elected via a general consensus, during a meeting held in Nairobi on Monday.
Waiguru who is also serving for a second term as Kirinyaga governor follows in the footsteps of her predecessors, the likes of former Bomet county boss Isaac Ruto and his former Kakamega counterpart Wycliffe Oparanya who served for two terms.
She was first elected to the position after the August 9th 2022 polls, when she beat Kajiado governor Joseph Ole Lenku.
Besides Ruto and Oparanya, others to have occupied the position of CoG chair are: Peter Munya (Meru, 2015-2017), Josphat Nanok (Turkana 2017-2019) and Martin Wambora (Embu 2021-2022).
Waiguru said that she will now focus on fully devolving functions and resources as well as increasing revenue allocation to counties, during her second term.
She said she will work on how to improve counties' source revenue, alongside ensuring successful roll-out of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and agricultural value addition.
The council of governors brings together all the 47 county bosses.
