The Kenya Lionesses, the national women's rugby sevens team, have a busy weekend ahead, during which they are set to compete in the Africa Women's Sevens Tournament that will take place on November 9–10, 2024 in Accra, Ghana.
This is set to be an interesting event that will bring together some of the best women's rugby teams across the continent, who go head-to-head in the competition for top spot and boast about their being the best in African rugby.
The girls enter the competition this coming Saturday, November 9, with three games that are very important in their campaign.
Their first match will be at 1:06 PM East African Time, a time when they are expected to face Mauritius and try to start off with a win.
This will be an important opener for the Kenyan team, given that the right tone in the opening stages of any tournament often translates into great performance later on.
The Lionesses next take to the field against hosts Ghana at 3:50 PM after their encounter with Mauritius.
This will indeed be a heated match, as Ghana will boast home support, which could very well give them that added edge.
But with experience and a good winning record in African competitions comes a favorite to this tie: Kenya.
The Kenyan team will have to come out with guns blazing in order to Pip Ghana's spirited challenge for that crucial win in their second match of the day.
Their final match on Saturday will be with Madagascar at 6.34 PM.
Madagascar has grown over the years and is bound to give a very good fight.
This third fixture will be a test of endurance for the Lionesses, as three consecutive matches within a day require not only physical but also mental strength, along with game tactics.
The Lionesses are hard at work in camp under the stewardship of their experienced coaching staff as they prepare for the Africa Women's Sevens.
With a number of experienced players coming into the tournament, promising new talents are expected to show a lot of skill, speed, and teamwork on the pitch.
The team has been doing well in regional tournaments, and with this tournament, there is every hope among fans back home that they might bring the trophy home once again.
The matches are set in EAT to allow the fans across the country to keenly follow the action.
As anticipation gradually builds up, the Kenyan rugby fraternity and sports lovers at large rally behind the ladies' team, the Lionesses, for a successful outing in Accra.
The tournament, which further presents a good opportunity to showcase Kenya's rugby prowess, will be an important avenue for developing women's sport across the continent.
It looks a daunting lineup, full of potential thrilling competition in Ghana-an exciting event for rugby fans in Africa.
It is with these three definite high-stake matches on Saturday that the Kenya Lionesses, as they are known, begin what promises to be a highly eventful sojourn in Ghana.
