Kisii County assembly breaks for recess

 Kisii County Assembly has broken for recess with members citing major achievements in the close of first half of assembly calendar during this 2023/2024 financial year.

Speaking at the County Assembly Wednesday, Monyerero Ward MCA, Peter Gechana Otachi cited passing of the Finance bill 2023/2024 as one of

their recent achievements and allocation of ward based budget for the first time to a total of Sh39 million.

Otachi who is also the Chair of the budget and appropriation committee also cited the supplementary budget, which was passed this week and appointments of Board members for Ogembo municipality.

Otachi said the MCAs were preparing to review projects which are in progress in their respective ward during the recess period, which ends on 12th February 2024 and find out which others needs to be done in

future.

On education, he said the issuance of bursary forms will be ongoing during the recess and urged parents to take advantage of the allocation, which has been raised from Sh3 million last financial year to Sh5 million this year.

Jim Kenyanya, Deputy Chair of finance committee said the bursary for this year will benefit not only secondary school learners like in the past, but will incorporate technical course students too.

He applauded his counterparts for passing the finance bill saying all the 45 wards in the county will benefit.

Kenyanya expressed optimism the new Public service Board sworn in recently will move fast to ensure public service was streamlined to benefit residents.

He appealed to residents to be patient with the county management saying it had entered development period with the Sh39 million for wards which was passed

in the budget.

Naftal Onkoba , Nyacheki ward MCA in Bobasi Constituency and the chair of Labor Manpower and social welfare noted the success made by the County Assembly was because members embraced healthy debates with no confrontations as experienced in some counties in the country.

He noted that the county was set to see more development especially now that elnino rains had not affected the area adversely. 

"On elnino, we have not fear because the rains have not adversely affected the region," he said.

He wished county residents a merry festive season and urged them to prepare in advance to take their children to school next year.
