Students of Riokindo Boys High School have been sent home following a fire incident that razed down a dormitory on Tuesday.

According to the School’s Principal Mr. Gerald Orina, the fire which began at around 8pm brought down the structure that housed 602 Form Four students and destroyed property worth Sh4 million.

Orina noted that no injuries were reported since the students were attending the evening classes when the fire broke out.

"The Board of Management has passed a resolution that given the term is ending and our students have finished their exams, they should be released to proceed for the holidays and leave space for the candidates to continue preparing for the national exams," he said.

The Principal pointed out that the cause of the fire was unknown and investigations have commenced to establish the same, adding that there was a power blackout prior to the fire outbreak.

He lauded the members of the community, Kisii County Government and other school stakeholders for their quick response to the incident.

Kisii Governor Mr. Simba Arati who visited the school after the occurrence donated beddings and funds to the school in order to support the affected students.

Arati also promised to assist the school in raising funds to build modern dormitories that will accommodate the joining students come January.
