Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana now says it is proving impossible for some of the Ukambani leaders to work with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka in the Azimio One Kenya Coalition. Kalonzo teamed with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga a few months ago to form the now Azimio One Kenya Coalition that comprises at least 30 political parties. The former Vice President joined the coalition months after some of the Ukambani leaders among them Kibwana, Alfred Mutua of Machakos, and Kitui’s Charity Ngilu declared their support for the ODM leader. But according to the Makueni Governor, since joining the coalition, Kalonzo has always wanted him out of all Azimio structures. Kalonzo is considered the Ukambani political kingpin and at one time, there were attempts by the three governors (Kibwana, Mutua, and Ngilu) to position themselves as the alternative force in the region. The Wiper party leader’s entry into the alliance which also comprises President Uhuru Kenyatta seems to have unsettled the three-county bosses. After he joined us, he wanted especially me out of all Azimio structures. I have no choice but to be at peace with this sad reality. History will ultimately judge all of us. May IT be kind @RailaOdinga,” the Makueni county boss posted on his official Twitter handle on Wednesday, April 20, 2022. The coalition recently released a leadership structure in which the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader who is also the presidential candidate was named the party leader. President Uhuru Kenyatta is listed as the chairperson of a top decision-making organ for the coalition. The Azimio One Kenya Coalition will be governed by two organs – the Coalition Council and National Coalition Executive Council (NCEC).
