Teso South MP Mary Emase has condemned the ongoing anti-government protests across the country.
Speaking to the press at the constituency on Sunday, Emase said that the demonstrations have led to the destruction of property and the loss of innocent lives.
“Yesterday I visited a number of schools while initiating development projects but what I saw was worrying,” he said.
She urged parents not to allow their children to participate in such kind of lawless activities.
The lawmaker urged Azimio leader Raila Odinga to engage in talks with President William Ruto to resolve the ongoing stalemate.
“We need peace in this country so that locals can engage in development activities,” she said.
Busia County KUPPET Executive Secretary Moffats Okisai urged leaders to engage in what he termed as a serious dialogue.
Okisai pointed out that four schools within Busia town had been closed down due to the ongoing anti-government protests.
"As we talk now, St Matthias, Burumba Secondary, Our Lady of Mercy Secondary, and Lukonyi Boys Primary have been closed down because of the ongoing protests,” he said.
He added that one student was killed with another hospital nursing injury.
“It is high time that those who are leading the protests do so in a dignified manner,” he said.
The Azimio leadership has however insisted that the demonstrations will continue from Wednesday to Friday in the coming week.
