Leaders elected on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party in Homa Bay county have been asked to shun political sideshows ahead of President William Ruto’s visit to the area this Friday.
UDA party officials led by Homa Bay town constituency Chairman Jacob Ochola said there was need for all leaders to work together to spur economic growth in the county.
President Ruto is expected to launch the construction of Homa Bay Pier along the shore of Lake Victoria in Homa Bay town.
Speaking to the press Monday, Ochola said leaders across the political divide must prioritize on service delivery.
He was accompanied by former MCAs Juma Awuor (Homa Bay Homa East) and Julius Nyambok (Homa Bay Central), UDA Homa Bay Woman leader Tabitha Nyandiek and Secretary Erick Osoro.
Awuor said too much politics impedes development.
He said development can only be achieved if leaders in the county work closely with the government.
“Politics is already overtaken by events. Let our leaders start working with the government,” Awuor said.
Nyambok said Homa Bay still has many development challenges. He said the co-operation is what can bridge the gaps.
“In Homa Bay Town Constituency, for instance, we do not have a Technical Training Institute (TTI). It is through cooperation with the government that we can have a TTI and other development projects,” said Nyambok.
Osoro appealed to the government to speed up the importation of electric motorbikes to enhance employment creation for the youth.
“The livelihood of many youth depends on boda boda. I appeal to the government to waive taxes on electric motorbikes because the cost of fuel has skyrocketed,” Osoro said.
Nyandiek urged women to utilize the opportunities which the government has started to empower them.
“The government has started a Sacco for empowering women in Homa Bay. Let our women access funds for doing business,” Nyandiek said.
