Meru county MCAs have urged Governor Kawira Mwangaza and her Deputy, Mutuma M’Ethingia to shelf personal interests and find time and space to address their differences amicably, once and for all.
Led by the majority leader, Evans Mawira at the public Nteere grounds in Meru town, the legislators said Meru people were in dire need of a peaceful environment in which the much-needed community development and growth can thrive.
Mawira said the prevailing wave of acrimony between Governor Kawira and her deputy was impacting very negatively on the reputation of Meru political leaders and by extension the larger Meru County population.
Akirang’ondu MCA, Morris Ntarangwi said all elected leaders had an obligation to impartially serve everybody in their areas of representation regardless of the individual political affiliation during or after the campaigns.
Ntarangwi noted that no leader can boast of having garnered 100% of the votes cast during the general elections, hence the need to uphold humility and be a symbol of peace and unity in the community, for the purposes of creating a conducive atmosphere for community development project initiatives and mobilizing implementation resources as a team.
County minority leaders, Kaaba Murii appealed to leaders to uphold respect and trust at their positions and levels of leadership, to be able to embrace the culture of delegation and also leave room for consultation and advice from other leaders.
“Delegating and working in consultation with colleagues and other like-minded leaders is never a sign of incompetence, weakness or failure,” Murii said.
The MCAs collectively condemned the act of hooliganism against journalists in their line of duty, saying it was against their professional freedom granted by the constitution of Kenya.
“It is very shameful for any right-thinking elected leader to stoop that low to be associated with planning and mobilizing goons to disrupt public peace and security, along with attacking journalists on duty,’’ The legislators said.
