Lusaka applauds Bungoma teams for commitment during KICOSCA games

Bungoma governor Kenneth Lusaka has applauded the county’s sports teams for putting their best feat forward, during the 11th edition of the Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) games, held in Kakamega county.
The week-long sporting event concluded with Bungoma Ladies’ volleyball team finishing as runners-up, after a spirited match against Uasin Gishu County.
Uasin Gishu won the final 4-1.
Governor Lusaka praised the athletes for representing Bungoma with distinction.
“You played exceptionally well, and while the best teams emerged as winners, your effort and commitment have been outstanding,” he said.
The county chief encouraged the players to maintain hard work and train their eyes on victory during next year’s games. He also acknowledged the challenges they faced, including operating without adequate allowances, and assured them of improved support in the future.
“I understand the tough circumstances you endured, but I promise that we will address the issue of allowances going forward.”
Attributing the financial constraints to delayed disbursements from the national treasury, Lusaka expressed optimism that such hurdles will be resolved in the future.
KICOSCA was founded in 2013 upon the advent of the devolved system of governance, replacing the Kenya Inter-Municipalities Sports and Cultural Association.
The purpose of the games is to give an opportunity to employees from the 47 counties, to exhibit their sporting talents and interact to learn each other’s cultural orientations.
Meru, Kisumu, Nairobi, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, Kiambu, Machakos, Kisii, Kericho and Embu are among the counties to have previously hosted the games.
Among the sporting disciplines lined up during the games are football, handball, basketball, netball, squash, badminton, tug of war, scrabble, netball, chess, volleyball, pool, ajua, golf, table tennis, and darts. Choir competitions and cultural dances are also part of the menu.
Before the games begin, the host governor receives a chain and torch from the chair of the Council of Governors Sports and Culture Committee.
