Magistrate Rugut is dead

Members of the Judiciary have been thrown into mourning once again, following the demise of Bernard Kipyegon Rugut.
Rugut was the Principal Magistrate at the Molo Law Courts in Nakuru County.
Chief Justice Martha Koome in her condolence message, celebrated the late Rugut for exemplifying the virtues of diligence, fairness and professionalism in all his judicial duties.
His passing, Koome said, is not only a significant loss to his family but also to the Judiciary and the communities he faithfully served.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones as we mourn the loss of a dedicated judicial officer whose legacy of service will continue to inspire us all. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” stated the Chief Justice.
His career began on July 13, 2012, when he was appointed Resident Magistrate, and posted to Bondo Law Courts.
He served in various stations across the country, including Ndhiwa and Kericho, before being appointed Principal Magistrate of the Molo Law Courts, in May 2023.
Rugut’s death comes days after the demise of Judge Zena Atetwe Rashid who passed away on Sunday, October 20 due to an undisclosed illness.
Until her demise, she was based at the Milimani law Courts in Nairobi.
"On my own behalf and that of the Judiciary fraternity, I extend heartfelt condolences to her family, friends and loved ones. We pray that the Almighty God graces us with the fortitude to brave this difficult period and rest her soul in eternal peace," CJ Koome said while announcing Rashid’s death.
It does not end there. The Judiciary has lost prominent judges this year.
Then presiding Siaya High Court Judge Daniel Ogola Ogembo’s body was discovered on July 17, with reports indicating that he died on the night of July 16.
His demise was confirmed less than two weeks after the death of Justice David Majanja.
In June, Makadara Principal Magistrate Monica Kivuti died after being shot by a policeman during an active court session.
