Malkia Strikers thrash Egypt to win continental title

Kenya national women volley team, Malkia Strikers are on top of the African tournament.

Malkia Strikers are the new African champions, after beating Egypt in three straight sets during the Africa Women's Volleyball Championship final n Yaoundé, Cameroon.

They beat Egypt in sets of 25-22, 25-20 and 25-14 to win the 10th continental title.

President William Ruto is among top government officials to have commended the team for a job well done.

"Congratulations Malkia Strikers, the winners of the 2023 Africa Women's Volleyball Championship."

"After eight years, your grit, hard work, resolve and never-say-die spirit has brought the title back to Kenya. We celebrate you and we are proud of you," he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Defense Cabinet Secretary (CS) Aden Duale was not to be left behind.

"Congratulations to our national volleyball team, Malkia Strikers! By finishing first in a spectacular 3-0 win against Egypt and claiming your tenth continental title."

"You have made the country proud at the just concluded finals of the 2023 CAVB Women's African Nations Volleyball Championship in Yaoundé, Cameroon. Best of luck as you prepare and practice to play at the 2024 Paris Olympics," he added.

Sports CS Ababu Namwamba took the que.

"Hongera Malkia Strikers, our superb national women volleyball team, for emphatically winning the African Nations Championship in Cameroon with a 3-0 victory over Egypt 25-22 25-20 25-14, thus qualifying for the Paris Olympics next summer. You have made Kenyans proud."

And Transport CS Onesmus Kipchumba Murkomen added:

"Queens of Africa: Congratulations Malkia Strikers on your emphatic win against Egypt, your crowning as the African Champions and deserved qualification to the 2024 Paris Olympics. You've made Kenya proud."

Malkia Striker's win comes with several privileges.

They have earned qualification to the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championships, besides landing an automatic spot for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
