A 51-year-old man was on Monday arraigned before the Kenol law courts and fined Sh.10, 000 for stealing water pipes.
Caleb Mung’au appeared before Kenol Senior Resident Magistrate Ms. Sheila M. Nyaga charged that on June 16 this year, he was found in possession of irrigation pipes believed to have been stolen from Delmonte firm.
The accused was spotted by the company’s security guards at 6am carrying a sack loaded with irrigation pipes. The guards promptly informed the Kenol police officers, who apprehended the accused and took him to the Kenol police post.
In his defense, the accused claimed that although he did have the pipes with him, he did not steal them from the Delmonte firm but had purchased the irrigation pipes from someone else.
Further, he contested the assertion that he was arrested within the Delmonte company premises and denied encountering the firm's security guards.
However, the Magistrate found him guilty and sentenced him to pay a fine of Sh. 10,000 or in default serve a three-month jail term.
