Marsabit leadership condemn demos

Marsabit leaders and residents have condemned ongoing demonstrations in the country organized by the opposition and urged those behind the protests to call them off.

The leadership led by Governor Mohamud Ali said the action was uncalled for and asked the Azimio leader Raila Odinga to reconsider the move by giving his followers guidance on better ways of raising grievances with the government.

Governor Ali who was accompanied by Marsabit Women representative Naomi Wako and Laisamis MP Joseph Lekuton during the opening of a 36-kilometer road constructed with the assistance of the Lake Turkana Wind Power (LTWP) in Mt Kulal location Wednesday, said the demonstrations were not only diversionary, but also destructive.

He regretted that the actions of the opposition were negating gains made in various spheres of development as well as destroying the economy.

"We are calling on the leader of the opposition to call off the ongoing demonstrations and to allow Kenyans to go about the daily activities that are geared towards bettering their lives without interruptions," said the governor.

On her part, Naomi said Marsabit County residents were development conscious and would not allow anybody to destruct them from that course.

She termed the protests as misguided political actions and called on the Azimio leader to show patriotism and statesmanship by respecting the leadership of the country and preaching peace and unity.

"I term it as shameless and lack of patriotism on the part of Raila Odinga and his team," said Naomi, while appealing to Kenyans to jealously guard the existing peace in the county and say no to incitement.
