Normal business operations and transport in Nyamira town and its environs were paralyzed Wednesday following countrywide protests by the Azimio la Umoja supporters with virtually all business retail outlets and premises remaining closed.
Roads leading to the Central Business District (CBD) of the county were barricaded early Wednesday and only a few daring boda boda operators ferried people using feeder roads.
Police officers used teargas canisters to disperse the protesters who burnt tyres in the middle of the roads and barricaded the main highway roads in Nyamira County.
Members of the County Assembly affiliated to the Azimio la Umoja political coalition Duke Masira of Township ward and Vincent Benecha (Kiabonyoru ward) led the demonstrations saying life had become unbearable for the struggling overtaxed Kenyans and that the president must do something to cushion poor Kenyans from the unbearable cost of living.
"We cannot sit back and assume that everything is fine whereas our people are suffering, unable to make ends meet financially. We must fight to the bitter end for our poor people’s plea to be heard,” Masira said.
