Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua has finally announced her support for Azimio la Umoja’s presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
Karua made the announcement following a closed-door meeting that she had with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader in a Nairobi hotel.
“I’m here to confirm that from now onwards, Narc Kenya and I are supporting the Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga,” said the former Gichugu Member of Parliament.
The vocal former MP also explained why she had settled on Raila as her preferred presidential candidate over the Kenya Kwanza side which was also hoping she will support them.
According to Karua, Azimio la Umoja has a better number of good people, who can help push for the interests of Kenyans.
She however admitted that both sides, Azimio and Kenya Kwanza have their own bad people.
“All sides have people who have looted. All sides have people who do not believe in the rule of law and all sides have good people. I have looked at both sides and identified a critical mass of good people within Azimio la Umoja. And that is all that is needed to steer the nation in the right direction,” the Narc Kenya party leaders said during a media briefing.
She also pointed out that having previously worked with Raila in the second liberation fight and pushed for a new constitution, she is convinced that they will forge forward for the interest of the people of Kenya.
“I have said time and again, as we move forward, we must look for leaders who have a demonstrated track record of being selfless, putting the interest of people above theirs. People who can fulfill promises. We know without integrity and safeguarding public resources, all the promises amount to nothing,” said Karua.
The entry of Martha Karua to Azimio la Umoja comes as a major boost to Raila Odinga’s presidential bid and the battle for the vote-rich Mount Kenya region.
