Mbadi calls out Ruto for 'bragging over economic stability'

By Peter Ochieng

ODM chairman John Mbadi is not convinced that Kenya's economy has stabilised under president William Ruto.

Ruto has cited economic stability as one of his key achievements, since he assumed office a year ago.

During a Citizen TV interview on Thursday morning, Mbadi said claims of economic stability under Ruto are far fetched, given the fact that the Kenyan shilling continues to perform dismally against the US dollar.

"Ruto is bragging that he has stabilised our economy, yet one dollar is hitting Sh150 and the national debt is rising. The cost of living must be discussed in the bipartisan talks," said the nominated Member of Parliament (MP).

One US dollar is currently trading at 143.50 Kenya shillings.

Additionally, the former Suba South MP called out opposition legislatures collaborating with Ruto's Kenya Kwanza administration, stating that they should resign and seek for a fresh mandate.

"Azimio MPs who crossed to Kenya Kwanza should resign and seek a fresh mandate. We are calling for the respect of multi-party democracy as our constitution speaks to it," he said.

But Jane Kagiri, Laikipia county women representative said those who made a decision to work with the government have every right to do so.

"Azimio shouldn't feel jilted by those who decided to join Kenya Kwanza. If I were part of Azimio, I would be frustrated because they're dealing with a government that has delivered most of its promises. If you can't beat them, join them," she insisted.

Some of those working with the government despite being elected on Azimio affiliated parties are Lang'ata MP Phelix Odiwuor alias Jalang'o, Suba South MP Caroli Omondi and Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda.
