MCK unveils industrial attachment Programme starting January 2025

Nairobi,

Sunday, 1 December, 2024

McCreadie Andias,

The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has announced the launch of a dynamic industrial attachment program aimed at final-year media students starting in January 2025.

This initiative seeks to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world media practice, providing students with an opportunity to enhance their skills, gain valuable professional experience, and make significant contributions to various media outlets across the country.

The program, which runs from January to March 2025, is designed not only for students in media disciplines but also for those pursuing studies in public relations, communications, digital communications, corporate communications, and other related fields within the broader media industry.

MCK has partnered with recognized media outlets across Kenya, offering a diverse range of placements that will expose students to the inner workings of the media sector.

The attachment is an essential stepping stone for students to apply the theoretical knowledge they've gained during their studies in a real-world environment. With Kenya's media landscape evolving rapidly, these students will have the chance to work with professionals in the field, gaining insights into the latest trends in journalism, digital media, broadcasting, and public relations.

By engaging with the day-to-day operations of established media houses, students will better understand industry standards, ethics, and the latest technological innovations shaping the media world.

MCK’s program is not just about giving students a platform to apply their academic knowledge; it is also a chance for them to gain mentorship from seasoned professionals who will guide them through various aspects of the media industry.

This mentorship is crucial in helping students navigate the often complex and competitive media job market, giving them the skills and confidence needed to thrive in their careers after graduation.

The Media Council of Kenya’s industrial attachment program is set to provide students with more than just an internship experience.

The program offers a monthly stipend to all selected beneficiaries, ensuring they can focus fully on their training without financial stress. This stipend will support students with their upkeep during the attachment period, making the opportunity more accessible to a wider pool of applicants.

To apply, interested students must submit their applications through the MCK website, where they will be required to provide proof of their portfolio and projects, examination transcripts, a recommendation letter from their academic institution, and an MCK press card, among other documents.

These materials will help the council assess the candidates' readiness and commitment to joining the program.
