A funeral service in Machwele village of Bumula Constituency aborted last Saturday after bereaved relatives of a murdered man returned his remains back to the morgue until justice was served.

The family claimed that their loved one was attacked and killed in a chang’aa den accusing the police of being lax to bring the “known culprits” to book.

Locals narrated to journalists how the deceased was attacked in a chang’aa den and beaten to death by known individuals in the village.

They said that the incident happened in broad daylight blaming the Bumula DCI officers for not taking action against the perpetrators.

A relative of the deceased, Tom Marauni said that the family had arranged to bury the deceased on Saturday but they decided to halt the service and take the body back to Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary until justice is served.

“We need justice before the body of the deceased is brought back for burial,” he said, noting that the family will thereafter set a new burial date.

He said that the chang’aa den where the deceased was killed is still operating.

Marauni said the police have not even visited the scene of the crime to commence investigations.

He added that if the suspects aren’t arrested the locals will stage demonstrations every day until they are served with justice.

Marauni decried increased incidents where people are killed in Bumula but no action is taken on the suspects.

Speaking, Bishop Justus Khisa of the Church of God of all Nations condemned the incident asking the DCI to take up the matter and investigate it.

Khisa added, “I have been following this case since it happened and sincerely speaking this family needs justice because their loved one was killed by known people in the village but no action has been taken against them,”

He noted that the matter has been reported to the police station but the police are still dragging their feet on the case.
