Member of Parliament for Lugari Constituency, Nabii Nabwera has claimed that there is poor governance in the Education sector.

This has caused poor delivery of service to the teachers making the condition so difficult.

Speaking in an interview with Citizen Tv, Nabwire has said that the government is capable of funding the education services but the education sector is not well managed.

The lawmaker has boldly condemned the Ministry of Education for delaying to pay teachers who marked the Kenya National Examinations Council.

According to MP Nabwera, the money for payment of teachers who marked KNEC examinations are included in the budget, but the council is not working towards paying teachers.

In the Budget 2023/24, the government allocated sh 5 billion for examinations for primary and secondary school students.

"It is regrettable that KNEC has not paid examiners,"said Nabwera.

The MP has claimed that the delay in payment is as a result of credibility issues that have affected the transfer of money that was supposed to be paid to the examiners.

He has urged the Ministry of Education to hasten the process of payment to the examiners for the effort they put in the marking process.

He has called upon the national government to cooperate with the Ministry of Education so as to upgrade the level of education in the country to the global level.

"We need to move to that as fast as possible," he said.

In addition, Nabwire urged the government to disburse enough funds to the schools to cater basic needs and also accommodate co-curricular activities.

"This issue of capitation is not limited to secondary school, there is even a bigger major problem in primary schools,"he stated.

In general the education sector receivedSh 628.6 billion for the financial year 2023/24, representing 27.4 percent of planned national expenditure. Virus-free.www.avast.com
