No amount of push and shove by the Judiciary and non-governmental organizations will sway parliamentarians to surrender the National Government Constituencies Development Fund, (CDF) Ugenya legislator, David Ochieng has said.
Ochieng said that as the only grassroots Fund that Kenyans feel on the ground, he and his colleagues will defend CDF to the hilt from persistent attacks from those opposed to its existence.
He was speaking at Umer primary school in East Ugenya Ward when the National Government CDF board, led by its chairman, Abdiaziz Yarow commissioned three new classrooms built under the board’s corporate social responsibility program.
“The NGCDF is here to stay and as a lawyer, I can tell you that Judiciary and NGOs can do what they want but us in Parliament will ensure that it is always there because it is the only grassroots kitty we have,” said the legislator.
Ochieng, who is also the leader of the Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) political party said the Fund has helped many to acquire education besides financing other development projects. “Let us not joke with CDF,” he said adding that without it, most parts of the country would still be lagging behind in terms of development.
Addressing the occasion, NG-CDF board chairman, Abdiaziz Yarrow expressed the commitment of the board in ensuring the improvement of socio-economic development at the grassroots.
Yarrow called on CDF officials to ensure quality work in all its projects, adding that the board will not compromise on the same.
The chairman further ordered the officials to ensure that none of the CDF projects goes beyond three years without completion.
He further called for fairness in the distribution of the CDF bursaries, adding that no one should be discriminated against.
