Gachagua speaks on his relationship with Ruto
By Peter Ochieng
Deputy President Geoffrey Rigathi Gachagua on Friday assured Kenyans that nothing 'can ever come' between him and president William Ruto before the end of their first term in office.
Gachagua, popularly known as Riggy G through a post on X, formerly Twitter said they are joined at the hip, adding that their relationship is top-notch.
"President @WilliamsRuto and I are joined at the hip. We talk on a daily basis. My relationship with the President is top-notch. He has mandated me with a great responsibility because he understands my output. We shall continue working for Kenyans until the end of our term," he wrote.
His sentiments come days after Ruto reshuffled his cabinet for the first time on Wednesday night.
In the changes, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi was handed another role of Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs.
Some political commentators hold the opinion that Mudavadi is now the get-to-man in Ruto's administration, a stand downplayed by Gachagua.
Concerning the impending police deployment in Haiti, Gachagua said it is a step in the right direction.
"The people of Haiti are like our own people. If you look at the people of Haiti, you will definitely see your sister or brother in trouble. Our policemen have a very good track record across the world. The UN Security Council, after thoroughly checking on the output of our police officers, they recommended our officers to join forces with other officers across the world to bring order in Haiti."
"The UN has given our officers affirmation that they can be entrusted as the best in calming chaos and bringing order," added the DP.
Kenya has agreed deploy 1, 000 police officers in Haiti for a one year mission, which commences in January, 2024.
They will join forces with collegues from other nations among them Jamaica and Bahamas, to tackle gangs in the Caribbean nation.
