Kenyan celebrities are slowly coming out to spread the word about mental health. Being famous means you are everyone's attention and people expect you to be nothing short of perfect. Part of your life belongs to your audience depending on how much you share.
Popular Kenyan musician-cum-entrepreneur Akothee recently opened up about battling depression. The singer expressed herself via a post on her Instagram page. She told people in the same situation to keep on fighting.
Akothee says she has battled depression for the past 6 months. She spelt out symptoms of depression such as panic attacks, emotional bouts, a feeling of emptiness and being lost.

Akothee also points out that a spouse can put you on edge. The 41-year-old insists that having a healthy mind should be a top tier priority.
"My dear mental health is getting deeper. Don't be afraid to seek help. It doesn't matter if you are famous or not. This disease is worse than major diseases I ever heard about. Nothing is worse like feeling lost, !stuck! empty! Depressed and emotional with on and off panic attacks. Start by analysing your environment.
"Even your own spouse can push you to the edge. Have a healthy mind. Don't allow anyone to clog your mind and push it to a deep rest. Depression is real. Sending love to everyone going through this ugly moment. I battled mine for 6months, you can do it too," she posted.
Akothee is known to be very vocal and to hear her speak on such sensitive matters means the mental health issues are equally as important.
The celebrity late last year also highlighted on the plights of being famous. To some point, Akothee wished she could just lead a life as a normal person living a normal life.
Fans took to the comment section to share their love and sentiments on the same.
