Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata has branded as fake a list going round on social media, indicating that the UDA party has preferred candidates for the Member of the County Assembly (MCA) positions in the Mt. Kenya County.
"Murang'a county residents should turn out in large numbers to vote for their favourite aspirants in UDA nominations. Ignore fake news about direct tickets," the Senator said via a post on his Twitter page.
The list contains names of 35 politicians, allegedly handed UDA direct nominations as the Deputy President William Ruto-led UDA party holds nominations in over 30 Counties across the Country.
Speaking on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, ahead of today's nominations, Ruto assured aspirants that the exercise will be free and fair.
“We have committed to a free, fair and democratic process. We have made all arrangements, all ballot papers dispatched and they will be in polling stations early morning. We expect the candidate will cooperate with the officials."
Besides UDA, various parties among them Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Ford Kenya, Amani National Congress (ANC) and Democratic Action Party (DAP) Kenya are either holding or preparing to conduct primaries.
According to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) timelines, all parties should be done and dusted with party primaries by April 22, 2022, ahead of the August 09, 2022, general polls.
