Some Narok Legislators who spoke at the Madaraka Day celebrations vowed to support the Finance Bill 2023 as it offers a lasting solution to the ailing economy.

Kitilai Ole Ntutu (Narok South), Johanna Ngeno (Emurrua Dikirr) and County Women Representative Rebecca Tonkei said the bill once enacted into law will offer solutions to major issues affecting the country, among them the international debts.

They spoke at Entasekira Primary school in Narok South Sub County where the County Madaraka day celebrations were held and led by Governor Patrick Ntutu and County Commissioner Isaac Masinde.

MP Ngeno said the housing level that has attracted opposition in the country is one of the best things for this nation as many people living in the slums and homeless people will have an affordable home.

He faulted the opposition for criticising the bill yet they did not offer a solution affecting the poor people in the society who struggled to place a plate of food on the table.

“Do not be misled by the opposition, the people who will be taxed are us who earn a lot of money so that we can help the common mwananchi,” said MP Ngeno.

Ms Tonkei said the Kenya Kwanza MPs will pass the bill once tabled in parliament so as to support President William Ruto’s vision of developing the nation.

“We will not listen to the noise from the opposition, we will keep focused on what we believe is the right thing for this nation because we know the Finance Bill 2023 will help this nation,” he said.

Commissioner Masinde also rallied the residents to support the bill saying it will help boost the living standards of the many unemployed youths in the country.

He said about 200 affordable houses will be built in every constituency, which will be given to people at an affordable price.

“The housing levy will be a mandatory contribution for all civil servants. The money will go to build houses that can be purchased by any civil servant at an affordable price,” he reiterated.

The commissioner said the programme will benefit local people as they will do manual jobs and most materials will be purchased from the local hardware.

Among the things contained in the bill is an increase in the gross sales tax from one to three percent while roping in more micro businesses to the tax net by lowering the entry point to cover businesses with a turnover of Sh500, 000 from the previous Sh1, 000, 000.

The bill also proposes to introduce a new statutory deduction into the National Housing Development Fund at three percent of gross earnings.

The Ministry of Housing will be expected to create criteria for persons qualifying for affordable housing and who will employ their deductions to fund their home ownership needs.
