Bright and needy students in need of bursary from the NG-CDF kitty in Bondo constituency will no longer have to fill out bursary forms and make applications for the funds for them to get support.

This was revealed by the area MP Dr Gideon Ochanda who disclosed that the area bursary committee will identify and support all the bright and needy students from the constituency in schools where they have already been admitted.

Dr Ochanda who spoke during the handing over of six classroom blocks constructed by the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) at Ogoya primary schools in central Sakwa ward revealed that the old system of filling forms has been ineffective making it impossible to identify needy cases.

The legislator criticized the local administrators and faith-based organizations for failing to play their roles in the identification of genuine bright and needy students who deserve support for the NG-CDF Kitty.

He observed that the chief and their assistants together with faith leaders have been signing bursary forms knowingly for undeserving students which denies the genuinely bright and needy students a chance to get support.

“It has come to our realization that those charged with the role of identifying the needy cases are not doing their work. They have been signing forms for everyone who approaches them and in most cases it is those with the ability to pay the fee that submits the forms to the bursary committee,” said Ochanda

Dr. Ochanda disclosed that through the new system of identifying needy students in schools, all the deserving cases in boarding schools will receive the support of Sh10,000 annually, with all form-four students in day schools within the constituency benefiting from a similar amount each year.

He has therefore asked all needy students from the Bondo constituency to report to their respective schools and wait for NG-CDF support while in school.

The legislator further revealed that his office has reached an agreement with all secondary school heads in the region that NG-CDF will immediately send money to school accounts for one-third of the population in each school under its support while the remaining balance be wired to school accounts as soon as additional funds are released by the treasury.

“Out of Sh180 million NG-CDF allocation for Bondo, we have only received Sh30 million. It is on this basis that we have reached an agreement with all school heads that each school will receive funds for a third of the population supported by the NG-CDF while the remainder will be sent after additional funding from the treasury,” he explained
