Nyamira Governor, Amos Nyaribo, has issued full scholarships to bright, needy and vulnerable students, starting their secondary education this year.

Nyaribo confirmed, Monday, when giving out the scholarships that this was his 3rd Phase of the Nyamira County scholarship programme, that aims to assist needy and vulnerable students from the County to pursue their secondary education without any interruption.

“The selection exercise of vetting students who qualified for the scholarship was rigorous and targeted candidates who scored 300 marks and above. Each Ward had a vetting committee approved by the county education support fund board, where they were supposed to select at least 10 candidates from each of the 20 wards in the County.” Nyaribo clarified.

The Governor said just like the previous scholarships, it will cater for full fees for their four years in school, uniforms and a box to carry their items to school worth over Sh. 13 million.

“Those who were never selected should not give-up but apply for county bursaries, to be announced soon these bursaries assist students who are in form one and two and we are in agreement that the Members of Parliament (MP), through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), to issue bursaries to form three and four students to curb duplication of this bursary programme.” The County Boss clarified.

He warned that students who fail to maintain good performance in school will be discontinued from the scholarship, because all of them scored over 300 marks and this must be reciprocated in their secondary academic performance, because they are capable.

“Parents must play their role of providing their children with other personal effect required in school, continue talking to them on the importance of hard work and focusing on scoring high grades which will enable them to pursue their dream careers after four years,” Nyaribo advised.

County Executive Committee Member (CECM), for education and vocational training, Emily Oganga, thanked the Ward Committee for their commitment to vetting and selecting those who will benefit within short notice.

“We shall continue with a mentorship programme for these students who have benefited from the scholarship, so that they remain focused on their studies and understand how to choose professional careers, how to deal with their delicate age of adolescence and how to live as role models to their peers and mentor younger children, looking up to emulate them.

“Education is an equalizer in any society, your poor dilapidated economic background is inconsequential when your academic performance is impressive and your discipline beyond reproach, you will be admired and envied by all and sundry. Take advantage of this single most opportunity to transform your lives and that of your families and make a lasting impact which will be remembered as a legacy for ages to come.” CECM Onganga advised.
