Kisumu Senator Prof. Tom Ojienda says he has initiated talks with Agriculture Minister Mithika Linturi on the resuscitation of rice farming in Nyando, distribution of seeds to farmers, controlling crop destruction by birds and ensuring prompt payment to sugarcane farmers.
“I have stood firm with rice and sugarcane farmers for I have procured seeds for the rice farmers and I have also tabled before the senate issue of birds damaging rice farms as well as ensuring prompt payment to sugarcane farmers,” disclose Ojienda.
Ojienda also outlined several other steps he has taken towards ensuring that those affected by the floods in Kano are assuaged and permanent interventions implemented to end the Kano perennial floods.
The Senator said he has successfully pushed a motion in the Senate seeking to enlist the NYS so that they can construct dykes to end the perennial flooding in Kabonyo Kanyagwal.
