President William Ruto has earlier this morning called on Kenyans to turn up in large numbers and cheer up the National football team Harambee stars as it takes on South Sudan on a Friendly match at Kasarani stadium.

In a video from state House Nairobi, the head of state further congratulated the National team for winning a friendly match they played against Asia side Qatar last week.

“Congratulations Harambee Stars for winning against Qatar last week. I was happy that many Kenyans turned up in Qatar to cheer our team. Today at 4pm Harambee Stars will be playing South Sudan. I want to ask all Kenyans to show up to cheer our champions,” The president said.

Harambe stars edged Qatar 2 - 1 last week in a friendly match courtesy of goals from Reims based Joseph Okumu and Armenian based Amos Nondi.

Similarly, Harambee Stars head coach Engin Firat has rallied fans to turn in large numbers and support the team as they did in Qatar's match where over 11,000 Kenyan fans thronged the Aljanoub Stadium for the match .

"I hope they will do the same. If they really like the national team, if they're really patriots then they should support . I have to say I lost a little bit of hope about it here. But they gave me some hope in the match against Qatar and I have to thank the people there.

"They gave us our hope back. They didn't care we were winning or losing, it was all about what we were doing in the field and there was full heart and everything. This means patriotism, this means football fans. We don't need people here in the stadium or anywhere only talking on social media. We need people who believe in their country, this is what we believe is important," said the coach, during an open media session on Monday evening.

Tickets for the game are being sold at 500 shillings for the VIP dais and 200 shillings for the terraces and they are available at Kenya Cinema in the CBD as well as the match venue.

The match will kick off at 4PM.
