Shabana holds AFC Leopards to a Draw

Shabana and AFC Leopards played to a one-all draw at a packed Ulinzi Sports Complex in an FKPL encounter on Sunday afternoon.

Shabana’s Peter ‘Maestro’ Ogechi’s bullet header canceled out Brian Yakhama’s early penalty to consign both sides to a draw.

The away team had the opportunity to draw first blood when Enock Agwanda sent a powerful throw-in towards the net, forcing AFC Leopards custodian Levis Opiyo into making an excellent save in the 10th minute.

In the 13th minute, the home team got their first real opportunity after winning a penalty which was expertly converted by Brian Yakhma to put them ahead.

Their lead would not last long when Peter Ogechi Maestro restored parity from a corner kick situation, heading a clinical header into the back of the net in the 24th minute.

Shabana should have taken the lead again in the 32nd minute from a corner kick, as Ogechi unsuccessfully tried another go at AFC Leopards’ goal.

After the break Leopards’ Musa Oundo executed a neat strike from outside the box, but his effort went wide.

Shabana’s first clear chance of the second half came in the 63rd minute when Vincent Nyabuto’s on-target strike was dealt with easily by the Leopards’ keeper, Opiyo.

In the 75th minute, an unmarked Leopards’ Cliff Nyakeya had an opportunity to give his side the win when he received a clinical pass from Boniface Kweya, before maneuvering two Shabana players successfully and then whipped in a dangerous cross into the 18-yard area, but it was deflected wide for a corner kick.

In the end, both sides had to settle for a 1-1 draw, which saw the winless run by both teams in the 2023/24 FKF-PL campaign continue into round 6 of matches.
