Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi today made a stopover at the Namanga One Stop Border Post en route to Arusha to join celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of the East African Community.
His visit underlined the Namanga border post's importance as a vital entry point for regional trade and integration.
In his address to customs and immigration officers stationed at the border, Mudavadi expressed his appreciation for their relentless dedication and hard work in facilitating smooth cross-border operations.
"You exemplify the spirit of collaboration that defines our region," he said, complimenting the team for their professionalism and urging them to continue representing Kenya with excellence.
Mudavadi underscored the commitment by the government to improving efficiencies in border operations as important for promoting smooth trade within the EAC states.
His engagement with the customs officials focused on approaches aimed at streamlining cross-border clearances, facilitating trade with ultimate benefits to the lifestyle of the people in the East African region.
The visit occurs at a time when the EAC celebrates its 25th anniversary under the theme "Promoting Trade, Sustainable Development, and Peace & Security for Improved Livelihoods."
This milestone reflects not only on what the community has achieved over the last quarter of a century but also on the way forward, where regional integration remains cardinal. During the remarks, Mudavadi reiterated Kenya's position as a leader in championing policies that make the EAC strong.
He noted that this will go a long way to ensure an environment conducive to trade and sustainable development, which is important in improving the standard of living of East African citizens.
Special appreciation went to Nancy Pendo Sifa, the Chargé d'affaires at the Kenyan Consulate in Arusha, and Edwin Changwe, Assistant Regional Manager – Customs Arusha, for the warm reception and substantive engagements on regional collaboration and customs efficiency.
According to Mudavadi, collaboration by different stakeholders would make it easier to achieve EAC's broad objectives.
With the anniversary celebrations now approaching, Kenya's effort towards enhancing border efficiencies and trade relations reminds one of the collective desire of member states of the EAC towards a prosperous future through integration.
