Residents hail Ojienda’s flood campaign

Kisumu County residents have hailed Kisumu Senator Prof. Tom Ojienda over his Senate clarion call to the government to urgently put in place measures to tame the perennial flooding in parts of Kisumu.

Ojienda, in his Senate motion, called for the desilting of the major rivers in Kisumu including Nyando, Ombeyi and Auji to facilitate a smooth flow of water and drainage the rivers.

The Director General at the National Youth Service Mr. Amos Jathocha in his response to the call by the Senator noted the input by the Head of Public Service Aisha Jumwa that if NYS was given the necessary resources, they could undertake the desilting exercise.

Jumwa pointed to the construction of Koru Soin dam as being among the formidable measures by the government to assuage the flooding menace in parts of Kisumu.

Jathocha reiterated that the department has put in place adequate measures to control and check the perennial flooding usually experienced in parts of Kisumu.
