Rongo Sub County dominates Governor’s Cup

Rongo Sub County has outshined the other 11 Sub Counties to lift the Governor’s Cup becoming the first Sub County champions of the tournament in both men’s and women's competitions in Migori County.

In men’s football, Rongo were crowned champions after winning 2-0 against Suna West while in the women's category, Rongo Women won the match on penalties by beating Suna East 4-3.   

The winners of the tournament pocketed Sh100,000, medals, and jerseys while the first, second, and third runners-up bagged Sh60,000, Sh40,000, and Sh20,000 respectively.

The tournament also incorporated 40 teams in all the 40 Wards whereby the winning team at the Ward level received Sh 50,000 while the first, the second, and the third runners-up received Sh40,000, Sh20,000, and Sh10,000 respectively.

 The Migori Governor’s Cup is the first tournament organized since the interception of devolution in the County and according to the County Governor, Ochilo Ayacko. The tournament will give opportunities to the county youths to develop their talents.

 Ochilo added that the football event has promoted unity and harmony among the communities living in Migori urging the county residents to keep up the spirit to make the county great.
