Isiolo County Commissioner Mr. Geoffrey Omoding has directed that severe disciplinary action be taken against police officers who were on duty when three government offices were broken into.

Mr. Omoding regretted that the government had lost valuable equipment to criminals while there were police officers charged with guarding the offices at the County headquarters day and night.

Among the items stolen included three computers, office curtains and government vehicles vandalized at the weekend and the eve of Jamhuri day.

The County boss said the thieves broke into the office of Civil Registration, Agriculture and the County Commissioner’s office where three Computers and curtains were stolen.

He ordered that Administration Police Officers who were on duty at night be arrested and prosecuted.

“A number of government vehicles at the park yard were vandalized on different days while the security personnel who are paid by the taxpayers' money were on duty,” Mr. Omoding said.

“The Administration Police Unit which is mandated to guard government properties and premises has totally failed and the officers who were on duty should be made to face disciplinary action,” he added.

The administrator directed the County Directorate of Criminal investigation (DCI) to carry out a speedy investigation and arrest those officers so that all other security personnel could learn a lesson from the episode before the Christmas break.

He however added that the county was safe and the residents were free to go about their businesses as security operations would be enhanced in all areas and especially the hotspots.

He directed chiefs, their assistants and Nyumba Kumi elders to be watchful throughout the festive season and liaise with the police chiefs in combating crime over the period.

On current rain, Mr. Omoding said that the government has distributed relief food to 3,000 families and 1000 iron sheets to most of the affected people.

He added that more food would be distributed in the next two weeks.
