Ruto defends nomination of opposition politicians to cabinet

President William Ruto has continued to tout support for his reconstituted Cabinet which is awaiting parliamentary scrutiny for approval.
Speaking on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Kinango Technical and Vocational College in Kwale County, the Head of State denied claims that the appointed Cabinet Secretaries will cause division in the country.
President Ruto assured the people of Kwale County that his most recent initiative to establish a broad-based government will not negatively impact any area or political party.
While defending his decision, President Ruto said that the country will benefit greatly if the appointed Cabinet Secretaries are allowed to lead their ministries.
According to President Ruto, the 2022 Presidential Election made history in the political dialogue in the country by removing the issue of ethnicity and regional politics.
"In 2022, we had a historic election that decided that we will not repeat partisanship. We will not have ethnic politics in Kenya, we will not have regional politics in Kenya, we will unite as people," Ruto said.
"We are not going to have tribal politics in Kenya, we are not going to have regional politics, we are not going to have regional politics, we are going to unite as people of Kenya," he added.
Ruto therefore made a plea to other leaders to back his administration and inclusion, emphasizing that these were necessary for healthy development.
"I want every citizen and every leader that there is value in us to unite and work together in making Kenya great. There will be no loser, we will all be winners, that is why we are creating a winning government and I want to say that when we create this Cabinet, we will change the country ours," the Head of State emphasized.
His sentiments come amid a political storm in Azimio regarding the appointment of four leaders of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to the Cabinet. Martha Karua's Narc-Kenya has already filed a notice of withdrawal from the coalition.
