Ruto defends Otuoma
By Peter Ochieng
President William Ruto on Sunday called for political tolerance amongst leaders across the country.
Speaking in Malaba town, Busia county after attending an interdenominational prayer at Machakus Primary School grounds in Teso South Subcounty, the president defended his decision to work with all elected leaders, including governors elected outside his Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
Ruto maintained the move was aimed at fostering unity and development, accusimg those critical of his collaboration with Busia governor Paul Nyongesa Otuoma of exhibiting double-standards.
Otuoma who is serving his first term was elected on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket, under the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya formation.
"These people are working against governor Otuoma because he has decided to work with the government of the day. But I am the president of Kenya and I am also governor Otuoma's president," said the Head of State.
"I have chosen to work with all leaders for the sake of development. But if your governor decides otherwise, I will simply forge ahead without him."
He praised the former Funyula MP for always having the interests of the people of Busia at heart, hence the numerous efforts he had undertaken to get his attention.
The president pledged to facilitate the construction of modern agricultural markets in Amagoro and Malaba towns at the cost of Sh150 million, with the construction of Amukura market in Teso South Subcounty ongoing.
Otuoma on his part promised to continue working closely with the national government, for the benefit of his electorate.
"My government will continue to partner with the national government on development projects for the benefit of our people," he added.
The county boss swiftly instructed directors of the Malaba Munispality Board, to commence preparations for the construction of a modern agricultural market at Malaba.
He directed the department of water to ensure residents get enough water in the area.
