President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua have performed dismally in an end of the year poll, conducted by research firm Infortrak.

Ruto scored a 'D,' an equivalent of mean grade rating of 47, while his deputy Gachagua scored a dismissal 'E,' of 36 marks.

The rating covers their performance in 2023.

"The writing is on the wall, a stern message for all leaders entrusted with shaping the nation's future. As we step into 2024, the hope is for significant improvement," the research firm stated in a statement.

Ruto's Rift Valley backyard gave him a 50 percent rating for his performance this year, the highest of all the regions in the country.

Western residents gave him a 49 percent rating, Nairobi and Central 48 percent, Eastern 46, Coast 44, North Eastern 43 and Nyanza 41 percent.

On the other hand, Gachagua got a 40 percent rating in Rift Valley, Central 39 percent, Western and Eastern 37, Coast 35, and Nairobi and North Eastern 34 percent.

Results of the survey indicate that the Raila Odinga led opposition got a 47 percent approval, better than the second in command.

The Judiciary and the 47 county governments had a score of 47 percent rating, while the police and county assemblies landed a rating of 45 percent.

The National Assembly and the Cabinet tied at 43 percent score, while the Senate had 42 percent.

The survey polled 1,500 respondents between December 18 and December 19, 2023.

Interviews were conducted through Computer Assisted Telephone Interviews (CATI) across all 47 counties and eight regions.

Elsewhere, results of an end year survey conducted by Trends and Insights For Africa (TIFA), released earlier revealed that 7 out of 10 Kenyans believe 2023 presented more challenges than the previous year, 2022.

The survey was conducted between November 25, 2023, and December 9, 2023.
