Ruto using own money to fuel cars, pay staff, after Treasury cuts funding

By Julius Tuwei Deputy President William Ruto's office has stated that it has not been receiving money allocated to it. Director of Communication Emmanuel Talam claimed that the  DP's office has not received its operational funding since September 2021. Mr Talam further said that DP William Ruto has been using his own money to fuel the cars. He further alleged that the second in command is paying his security team and other staff out of his pocket. The budgetary allocation to DP William Ruto's office is Ksh2.4 billion and it has been slashed by Ksh988 million to Ksh1.4 billion as per the 2020/2021 fiscal year. The funding was allegedly slashed during the Covid -19 pandemic. A section of politicians has claimed that the funding was cut because of the DP's political rivalry with President Uhuru Kenyatta. Recently the second in command visited the US and the UK. a move that sparked reactions from the public. His critics alleged that it was a waste of taxpayers' money. Kieni MP Kanini Kega is on record calling for the reduction of budgetary allocations to the ODP.
