Otiende Amollo accuses Gachagua of abuse of office in Kemsa scandal
By Robert Mutasi
Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo accused the Deputy President of abusing his office over the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority-Kemsa scandal.
The allegations came into the limelight as the MP Mutuse tabled evidence at the floor of the House, including an affidavit by Dr. Mulwa.
It states that the DP made a phone call with the aim of interfering with and covering up procurement irregularities within Kemsa.
Wherefore, the affidavit by Dr. Mulwa has brought to the fore that the actions by the DP were intended to block the course of justice to save those who were involved in the procurement scandal.
This revelation stirred a wave of controversy and indeed raised serious questions over the integrity of the DP office himself.
MP Otiende Amollo did not mince words. "The DP admits to abuse of office on the issue of Kemsa. The evidence tabled by the honourable Mutuse includes an affidavit by Dr. Mulwa and it states that the DP's phone call was aimed at interfering and covering procurement irregularities," he said.
Amollo further termed the DP's decision to participate in a live interview ill-advised, saying it had only served to incriminate him further.
"Whoever advised the DP to do that live interview could not have had his interest at heart. They have made our work easier because there are self-incriminations, confessions and admissions that we can work with," Amollo added.
The Kemsa scandal, which involves the misappropriation of funds earmarked for COVID-19 supplies, has become a big talking point in Kenyan politics.
It has led to the suspension of several high-ranking officials and put the government's handling of public resources in the wake of the pandemic in the spotlight.
"We will not retreat till the perpetrators of this scandal are brought to book," Amollo vowed, signaling continued commitment to unraveling the truth to ensure that people involved are held accountable.
