Morara Kebaso arrested
By Peter Ochieng
Accountability activist Morara Kebaso has been arrested again.
The lawyer-turned activist confirmed his arrest, via a post on X.
He linked his latest arrest to chaos experienced at the Bomas of Kenya, Nairobi on Thursday last week, during a public participation exercise on the removal from office of Deputy President William Ruto by impeachment.
The impeachment motion is active before the National Assembly, with Members of Parliament (MP) expected to vote on it later today.
Morara was stopped from accessing the Bomas of Kenya venue for some time. He was later allowed in, before chaos ensued.
“I have been arrested over what happened at Bomas. Can you imagine? Can you imagine? Does it even make sense? What is this now,” he stated.
His lawyer Pareno Solonka said officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stormed his office and took him into custody.
He added that he was later taken to the Lang’ata police station.
The activist was first arrested on September 30, 2024 at his Kahawa Sukari offices in Nairobi.
Electronic devices including phones and laptops were reportedly seized during the arrest.
He came to fame during the June and July anti-government protests, when he started touring and exposing government funded projects and programs which stalled despite being allocated millions if not billions of shillings.
He was subsequently charged for allegedly posting fake information, about one David Langat.
“David Morara Kebaso alias Morara Kebaso Snr on the 28th day of September 2024 at an unknown place within the Republic of Kenya, jointly with others not before the court, while using the X Corp Account dubbed; @MoraraKebasoSnr, knowingly without lawful excuse, posted false information…” the charge sheet read in part.
He was then released on a Sh50, 000 bail before the charges were dropped. The court termed the charge sheet as defective.
