President William Ruto announced major investments in Kenya's educational infrastructure.

Within the last two years, the government had recruited 56,000 teachers, with another 20,000 scheduled for January 2025, so every child in the system would have a chance to see a qualified teacher.

President Ruto's commitment is part of a broader strategy toward improving access and quality in education across the nation.

This also entails the construction of 11,000 new classrooms, with an additional complement of 6,000 classrooms from local MPs' CDFs.

This will help ensure that all students up to grade nine have ample learning space, important in creating an inclusive learning environment.

The president insisted that in addition to learning space, learning materials must be provided and that every child will have core books.

The move is part of the vision by Ruto for a full and impactful educational transition in order to remedy traditional resource challenges in the system.

This comes amid announcements on the improved lot of teachers, where KUPPET lamented the dire state of teacher welfare-an indictment that makes for a sober call on the government to bridge the trust deficit among educators.

Additionally, Ruto is trying to address the issues of the teacher shortage and the state of facilities to prevent chaos in schools, as discussions regarding teachers' rights are underway.

The government will also set up 1,800 laboratories to enhance practical work for students, especially in the sciences, something very important for the KCSE examination.

This kind of investment not only serves to improve facilities but also enables students to tackle the pressures and demands of a job in today's world, thus tying in with Kenya's wider ideals for economic development.

It is in such initiatives that the government will find success through its commitment to transparency and involvement in stakeholder consultation-including educators and parents.

That is a promise to create a fairer society by ensuring education especially for the vulnerable, poor, and marginalized.
