Liverpool boss sympathises with Ten Hag over Manchester United sacking

By Peter Ochieng

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has expressed nothing but sympathies for Erik ten Hag, a day after being sacked by Manchester United.

Ten Hag was relieved from his duties on Monday over poor form, two years after being appointed to steady the ship at Old Trafford.

With 20 and 19 Premier League titles respectively, Manchester United and Liverpool are known sworn enemies. However, that did not stop Slot from expressing solidarity with Ten Hag. Both managers are Dutch.

"He's a Dutch manager so it makes it even harder for me, for us as Dutch people. Always your first thoughts are with the person. We are all in this job so we know that it can happen but if it happens - especially because I know him a little bit and I know how much work he puts into it - to get this news for him is a pity,” he said during a press conference, as quoted by Goal.com.

“We also know, especially us from Holland, how well he did at Ajax and he won two trophies over here so we will see him in the near future again at a big club."

Slot spoke ahead of Liverpool’s EFL encounter against Brighton, set for Wednesday night. He said he is yet to make a decision on who will start.

“We played against Arsenal on Sunday, yesterday was mostly recovery for everyone, so today when they come in – and they have to come in as we speak – we will find out how they all are and then we have to make a decision on who is going to start.”

“But I think if you look at our schedule and the number of times that we have less days to recover compared to our opponent, because we play Brighton tomorrow, but Brighton played on Saturday and with Bayer Leverkusen it’s the same, they play Friday, we play Saturday – it might be a moment for us to also see some other players,” added Slot.
