Simba Arati distances ODM from Gachagua’s impeachment motion

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) deputy party leader, Paul Simba Arati nowadays the orange party has nothing to do with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment motion.

The motion is currently before the National Assembly, after being tabbed by Kibwezi West Member of Parliament (MP) Eckomas Mwengi Mutuse on Tuesday, this week.

Arati who doubles up as Kisii governor said the party’s hand is not in the motion to oust the second in command, adding that the party will respect the outcome of the process in Parliament.

“Parliament will assess, evaluate, and give a verdict on the impeachment motion as directed by the country’s laws,” said Arati, while speaking in Migori County.

“ODM will support and respect the outcome of both houses of Parliament because they have a right to do so.”

The motion was signed by 291 Members of Parliament (MP). Majority of legislatures elected on the ODM party ticket appended their signatures to send the DP home.

Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alais Babu Owino, is among ODM lawmakers who did not sign to impeach Gachagua.

Similarly, Nyali MP Mohamed Ali, elected on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party did not sign the motion to sign the impeachment motion against Gachagua.

"I have carefully read the charges in the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi. In good faith, I do not support this cause of action and find it ill- intentioned seeking to demonise a public servant who has contributed immensely to this great country," stated the journalist turned politician.

"Let it be known that I, Mohamed Ali Mohamed, did not sign the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. God bless Kenya."

Marakwet West MP Timothy Kipchumba Toroitich, questioned the motive behind Gachagua's impeachment at a time when the President and his deputy ought to be implementing their manifesto.

"My conscience is against the letter, the spirit and the intent of the impeachment motion against the Deputy President. Let history record that I, Timothy Kipchumba Toroitich, never supported the impeachment of the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. God bless Kenya."
