Six officials from a credit company have been detained at Homa Bay Police Station for swindling money from residents with ploy of offering loan services.
The Smart Life Credit operates as a money lending company whose offices are based within Homabay town.
Four of the officials who are alleged to have been cheating residents with promises of giving them loans, were arrested last week by Directorate of Criminal Investigation officers (DCI).
Two other officials voluntarily surrendered to the police after learning about the arrest of their colleagues.
According to the County Police Commander Samson Kinne, the six are being accused of taking deposits from unsuspecting residents in need of financial loan support but failed to give them the said loan.
He said they had received several complaints from the residents who claimed to have been conned by the firm which asks for money before offering credit.
"The credit firm failed to give the loan to them even after they have paid the required amount," he added.
Kinne noted that investigations are ongoing and that part of it will establish whether the firm has been registered or not and how it has been operating.
