A son of a Murang’a assistant chief was on Friday convicted to serve six years imprisonment by a Kangema court after he pleaded guilty to stealing school computers.

Anderson Mugambi who appeared before Principal Magistrate Irene Gichobi pleaded guilty to breaking into Iruri Primary school in Mathioya Sub County and stealing two computers and three trophies all valued at Sh90, 000.

Mugambi committed the offence on the night of April 8, with others not before the court.

The facts presented in court revealed that the area assistant Chief Isaac Ngugi, who is the father to the accused, reported that his son brought home some items and disappeared.

After investigations, the school head teacher identified that the items were the stolen computers and trophies, property of Iruri primary school.

The court heard that the suspect gained access to the office where the computers were kept by breaking the window pane.

He was arrested three days after the incident when the offense was committed with the recovered items tabled before the court as exhibits.

The prosecution revealed the accused was not a first offender saying in 2019, he was convicted for four years after he was found guilty of stealing from a shop.

In his mitigation, Mugambi said he stole the computers to start a cyber-business after he had stayed for a long time without a source of income and pleaded for leniency.

The magistrate stated the accused was a habitual offender and he had not learnt from his mistakes hence sent him to prison for six years without an option of paying a fine. He was given 14 days to appeal if he was not satisfied with the judgement.
