Speaker Wetang’ula Boosts Nzoia Sugar FC with Kshs. 2 Million to Promote Sports Development

Nairobi,

Thursday, 5th December 2024,

McCreadie Andias,
The Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Moses Wetang’ula, has pledged his unwavering support to local sports by donating Kshs. 2 million to Nzoia Sugar FC, a move aimed at addressing the logistical challenges faced by the football club and helping them secure a successful remainder of their season.
Wetang’ula made the donation during a meeting with the management of Nzoia Sugar FC at the Parliament Buildings. He acknowledged the critical role that sports plays in nurturing young talent while also promoting health and wellness among the population.
"Sporting is critical both for keeping our health in check as well as nurturing talent," said Wetang’ula. “I have this morning donated Kshs. 2 million to the management of Nzoia Sugar FC to help address some of the logistical challenges the National Super League (NSL) side is facing and ensure it successfully navigates the remainder of the season.”
The Speaker, an ardent fan of the club, expressed his deep support for Nzoia Sugar FC and encouraged the club's Chairman, Evans Kadenge, to continue driving the team forward by focusing on training, skill specialization, and strengthening the squad.
Wetang’ula also reassured Kadenge, the son of legendary Kenyan footballer Joe Kadenge, that he would continue to walk with the club in its pursuit of promotion to the prestigious Kenya Premier League.
"I am committed to ensuring that the team achieves its goals and secures promotion to the Kenya Premier League," Wetang’ula declared, emphasizing the importance of sustained effort and progress.
In response, Kadenge, who has been leading the club, expressed his gratitude for the generous donation and the Speaker's continued support. "Speaker, we appreciate your consistent support to this end. We assure you that we shall keep the fire on for the progress and prosperity of the Club," said Kadenge.
The occasion also saw the presence of Hon. John Makali, Member of Parliament for Kanduyi, who commended Kadenge for his leadership in guiding the team. He noted that the youth, especially during long holiday seasons, have immense talent that can be harnessed through football clubs like Nzoia Sugar FC.
Senator Wakoli Wafula of Bungoma also weighed in, encouraging young people to turn to sports as a career option. "Sporting is not only lucrative but also energy-consuming, which helps keep the youth engaged and physically fit," he stated, underscoring the long-term benefits of sports in developing both mental and physical health.
The leaders encouraged the youth to diversify their skills and explore sports.
The donation will go a long way in easing the club’s financial burdens, enabling them to focus on the remaining matches of the National Super League and work towards their ultimate goal of securing promotion to the Kenya Premier League.
